Dear Ms. Fu:

This snowy day has provided an opportunity to sort through important papers on my desk. In doing so, I came across your address, in a packet of information about your husband's detention in China. Julie Seavy, at All Saint Parish, assembled this information six months ago for the congregation. I've meant to write to you for some time.

In the course of the past year, as articles have appeared in newspaper about Dr. Yang Jianli's imprisonment, I've through with great sympathy about you and your family. It must be terribly difficult to be unable to contact your husband or even obtain information about his welfare. My heart goes out to you. I hope that the Chinese government will come to realize that much more can be gained for China by releasing Dr. Jianli than by continuing to detain him. I pray that he will be allowed to return to the United States soon.

 Sincerely,

Jean (signed)
