Dear Senator Snowe: You may remember our meeting on that very pleasant Congressional trip to China in March 2002. I am writing to ask you to support a bill in the Senate on behalf of my former student, Dr. Yang Jianli, currently imprisoned in the People's Republic of China. In a blatant case of the PRC authorities not abiding by their own laws, Dr. Yang has been held for 14 months without arraignment and trial. He has been denied legal representation, and even his whereabouts are unknown to his family who have been denied the right to see him. As you will be aware, the House has just passed H.Res.199 on his behalf, and in the same spirit, Senator Kyl and some colleagues are sponsoring S.Res.184. I urge you to support this Resolution.
