I understand your family has received no official notification of his status, but recently has been able to secure legal representation. On behalf of the President, I assure you that the United States Government has assigned high importance to Mr. Yang's earliest release.

The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing have pressed high-level Chinese authorities on the case. Most recently, Ambassador Randt raised your husband's case in a meeting with a senior Foreign Ministry official on February 27, 2003. We will continue these efforts until your husband's release.
