Letter to Congressman Fortney Pete Stark from a SupporterA supporter for Dr. Yang Honorable Fortney Pete Stark: On April 11, The U.S. House of Representatives, a bipartisan group of 12 Members of Congress (Neil Abercrombie, Michael Capuano, Christopher Cox, William Delahunt, Barney Frank, Tom Lantos, Edward Markey, James McGovern, John Olver, Joseph Pitts, Dana Rohrabacher, and Christopher Smith) introduced a resolution (HRES 199) calling on the Government of the People's Republic of China immediately and unconditionally to release Dr. Yang Jianli, and the President of the United States to continue working on behalf of Dr. Yang Jianli for his release. Like Dr. Jianli Yang, I came to the United States from China in the 80s and received my Ph.D. from a top unversity in my field and came to California for career. I am currently residing in San Francisco bayarea and working at NASA Ames Research Center as reserach scientist. While wholeheartedly appreciating what this country has offered me, I am mindful that the those at power in China continue to persecute political dissidents like Dr. Jianli Yang. As your constituent with conscience, I appreciate your previous effort by writing to Chinese Ambassador Yang Jiechi, and I urge you to support the Resolution HRES 199 that requests an immediate release of Dr. Yang who was secretly detained by the Chinese government more than a year ago. As his friend and supporter for 15 years, I have been observing his activities. Dr. Yang commits no crime by promoting freedom in China with non-violent means, much less expressing his hope for a democratic China. Dr. Yang deserves an immediate return to his home, here in the US, and a union with his family members, his children, his wife, his parents, . . . , who have not seen him or heard any news from him for more than a year.
