Congressman Frank R. Wolf's letter to US Ambassador in China

Frank R. Wolf

May 14, 2002

Ambassador Clark T. Randt, Jr.
Beijing
C/O Department of State
Washington, DC 20521

Dear Ambassador Randt:

I am writing to seek your assistance in obtaining the release of Yang Jianli, a permanent resident of the U.S. and head of the Boston, Massachusetts-based Foundation for China in the 21st Century. As the attached article from the Associated Press describes, Mr. Jianli was arrested while trying to board a flight in Kunming because he was not using proper identification.

While I understand there are extenuating circumstances about his case, his arrest and imprisonment are troubling. Mr. Jianli has been an outspoken advocate for democracy and human rights in China. The U.S. needs to stand wtih and stand for those around the world who promote freedom and demoncracy. I urge you to do everything you can to obtain the release of Mr. Yang.

Best wishes,

Sincerely,

Frank R. Wolf
Member of Congress
